Back from hunting in his castle of Moritzburg, August the Strong is about to relax in music. The musicians of the Hofkapelle, under the direction of Johann Georg Pisendel, have prepared for him a spectacular programme meant to remind him, with the sound of the horns, the most exciting moments of the hunt. No orchestra could be compared to the Hofkapelle, in strengh or in delicacy, in brightness and in quality of execution: this army of virtuosos was frequently honoured by the compositions of the best European masters. Even across the Alps, Vivaldi would dedicate his grand concertos to Pisendel and “l’orchestra di Dresda”. The Kapellmeister Heinichen will be represented with a selection of his colourful and brave arias written for the famous Senesino or Margherita Durastanti, that alternate with the profound, inspired and sometimes tortured compositions of Pisendel himself and his genious friend Zelenka.
